Sadaf Aleem
"Really inspiring" and "a life changing experience" - this is how Sadaf Aleem, a Sheffield Hallam University student, describes her experience on the Frontrunner leadership development course, run by Common Purpose, that she attended.
"Having the opportunity to be a part of the course has proven to be a tremendous opportunity not only in terms of developing my professional skills but it has also totally changed my perspective with regards to how I view and track my own self and professional development."
Sadaf came across a diverse range of personalities during the course who inspired her by sharing their leadership styles and success stories. "I realised that one thing common amongst all of these people was that each proactively looked for opportunities to develop themselves, took hold of their own career path and faced their fears, which set them apart from the rest of the crowd."
"One of the visits during the course was to one of Britain's leading manufacturers of mechanical and engineering seals which proved very beneficial for me as I was in search of a multi-national organisation to focus on as a case-study for my dissertation. I contacted the organisation after completing Frontrunner and they not only gave me access to conduct my research, but really assisted me throughout the process and also requested to use my dissertation to assist them with their work towards their own project and research. An opportunity like this would have been extremely rare to come across had it not been for meeting them on the course."
Since completing her Frontrunner course, Sadaf has felt more confident and driven and approached her local council for work experience in her chosen career, and was offered a placement. "It is proving to be amazing in terms of my learning and professional development" Sadaf said. "I am delighted to finally be networking and working amongst people related to my chosen career."
