Common Purpose
Generation Y is starting to stake its claim in the world. The
changes were isolated at first - large numbers of youth coming out
to vote for Obama, or to protest after Iran's presidential election
- but momentum has rapidly gathered. Look at Tunisia, Egypt, even
some of the student protests in the UK. It is a generation that has
embraced social media and is reaching out to individuals around the
world. They are trying to say something and are beginning to demand
an opportunity to become global citizens.
This year Common Purpose is expanding the work we do with
students. We will be launching a series of Frontrunner courses
aimed at developing the leadership skills of these individuals
while they are in University. We are hoping to offer Frontrunner in
India, Hong Kong, South Africa, Ireland, Germany and France, as
well as in the UK. And we are offering different opportunities
within Frontrunner: there will be awards for individuals and their
work that recognise how they have become global citizens, as well
as courses that focus on increasing the abilities of students from
different cultures to communicate with each other.
