Getting ‘ahead of the curve’

This week I attended RADAR's People of the Year Awards 2010 in London. It was a fantastic event that brought together 500 people and an inspirational line-up of prominent speakers and presenters, including: host Cerrie Burnell, and Maria Miller, the Minister for Disabled People. The event was themed 'Ahead of the Curve', to symbolise the next goal for private and public sector organisations when it comes to disability equality.

The chair of Common Purpose's Frontrunner initiative, Genevieve Barr, presented an award for factual media. This award recognised new media that has innovatively reflected the viewpoints of people living with health conditions or disability. 'The Silence', which is the four-part drama series on BBC in which Genevieve starred, was nominated for the fictional media award category.

It was great to see so many people and organisations with a common goal and to hear so many inspiring stories of people making a difference all over the UK. I also met and talked to some fascinating people who welcomed our Frontrunner initiative.

Do you have an idea that will help organisations stay 'ahead of the curve' and to empower the graduates they hire to become leaders? If so, please post it on our 500 bright ideas page.
